  • So, it is not a real market, but a art market like those that exist nowadays. It is clearly for the very rich to buy these.

  • For a lot of things, such as former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey selling "The first ever Tweet" as an NFT... I genuinely do not understand thsi shite! This one... This one I DO UNDERSTAND! And while I have been deeply sceptical and critical even of this NFT thing - This is one I can actually get behind! This one MAKES SENSE - Her family OWN THE ORIGINAL PHOTO... It is THEIR PHOTO... it is THEIR COPYRIGHT... Yet for all the times the picture has been edited and used - How much money have they ever actually made from it? ZILCH! NIET, NADA!!! We all know when you put a Picture online, You have essentailay given FREE REIGN to the Intenet to repurpose it as they see fit unless you watermark it - They didn't! It was for a Photo Contest... The momnet it was published, It was public domain! So I have no issues with this one... Why shouldn;t they make some money from this? This one at least makes sense!!! I am still not a fan of NFT's - I dont think I ever will be... But at least this one I can get behind and say "Fair Play!"

  • NFTs are basically the new art market... anyone can buy a print of the _Mona Lisa_ or _The Scream_ but the original is infinitely more valuable. Digital art has no "original" as every copy is identical, but this creates a _de facto_ item whose ownership can be traced, and therefore it can be sold and transferred. It doesn't (necessarily) grant any rights any more than owning a copy of Action Comics #1 or a Mickey Mantle baseball card or a genuine Van Gogh painting allows you to reproduce them. What you have is the right to say that *_you_* own it, which nobody else in the world can do, and the ability to sell that right to someone else if their cash is more important to you than your possession. PS - Ephemera (Ee-fem-eh-rah) = short-lived ("ephemeral") things

    Russ WilliamsRuss Williams15 päivää sitten
  • This kind of thing is bought by people with more money than sense. As with most things the value is determined by what others will spend for it. Think of comic books and art, but this is digital, so much easier to lose or be messed with, destroyed, etc. Digital media also changes over time so these things must be taken advantage of now, during their life span which may be pretty short. Memes like this are just ideas, which we can claim, but never truly keep solely to ourselves. Buying "bragging rights", proves my point. Nothing of real value. Good one for you if you can sell something like this.

    LifeOfSarcasmLifeOfSarcasm15 päivää sitten
  • this is eventually going to go down the road to turning memes into pay content like custom skins in videogames where you have to pay a fee to buy memes you want to post in your comments or on forums/reddit and the owner of said meme gets royalty's from all those that purchase. It will kill memes because memes become memes by going viral by being posted a ton by random people, if you have to pay for it, its not gonna go viral.

  • NFTs are simple on paper. Assuming you are an original owner of something, you emit a token for it. Then you can just sell it. Ledger is a public record of this transaction. Because it's all Digital and public, there is no limitation on paper what you can do with the token and for instance instead of selling the token itself which represents the ownership to the whole thing you can, emit more co8ns representing shares of original coin or lend it, wharever you imagine as long as - here hits the reality - there is an entity or some DeFi like structure that understands and support the logic/meaning you assign to that tokens you emit.

  • I'm not much of an economy guy, but at first read of this, I felt it a little uncertain about a lot of things. Jack Dorsey sold his tweet as an NFT for 3 million bucks or something. Some other dude sold Trump's tweets as NFTs too. But Trump's tweets are not visible anymore. The account was taken down by Twitter. So is that like Twitter burning someone else's money, or is it like a bank stealing from itself. (cause Twitter can basically put the account back up whenever it wants to)
