  • LeVar needs to be Canceled.... I don't mean that maliciously, just as a "consequence" of what he said. Because if he actually believes what he is saying, he is an idiot and deserves the consequences. Or he is lying/pandering to the regressive left and deserves the consequences.

Theres a REASON we have a justice system to prevent this sort of Angry Mob behavior that Twitter ABSOLUTELY encourages. Also when is Twitter going to be held responsible for this? We all know if the shoe was on the OTHER political foot theyd be jumping to stop this.

  • "... consequences are finally encompassing everybody in society, wheres they haven't been ever in this country." I disagree. If you want to live in a society where everybody feels consequences for their actions then you need to abolish the welfare state. No bailing out of single mothers & fathers, no bailing out of organizations like banks, none of that. Of course these people already know they wouldn't last a day if they had to carry their own burdens and responsibilities so they need to shift them on to others continuously.

  • I liked Geordie LeForge in Star Trek, but did you even notice he was a bit of a follower? Seems like maybe that was more typical of the actor than the character. I don't recall Geordie ever really having a commanding presence on screen; I just remember him seeking approval and being a yes man. Never really thought about that until today. I liked the character, but in retrospect, he really was just a follower. I liked Data too. Great character. Brent Spiner, not so much. Actually find him to be one of the most arrogant, narcissistic personalities I've ever seen. Levar Burton on the other hand, reminds me a bit of Carlton from Fresh Prince of Bel Air, but grown up. Also a yes man. So the fact that he's all in on this, and seemingly completely unaware of the ideological bend in his perceptions doesn't really surprise me.

  • This one hurts. I've loads of respect for Mr. Burton. He's literally the only person I have ever called Mr. in my life. My love of books can be traced back to him and him alone. So I thought for sure that he would be smarter than this.

  • It is axiomatic and inevitable _someone_ is going to end up with the power of control. Cancel mobs are akin to online cyber bullying of earlier times. What makes anyone with Levar Burton's mindset so arrogantly sure that as soon as "wrong thinkers" are gone, that their paymasters and backers wouldn't suddenly flip the script on THEM next? It would be a simple matter for the elites to dispose of the Levar Burtons of the world by claiming what they did was _not_ cancel errm "consequence" culture but just plain out cyber bullying. The line between the two is blurred at best if it ever existed at all. Don't believe me? Outlive your usefulness to your "lords" and see what happens.

  • Really? Levar is saying that this is consequence? You know what, he's right. How dare Gina Carano insult the people that were trying to force her to put pronouns in her Twitter bio. Doesn't she know that that's the worst thing a person can do? How dare she make a reasonable comparison about how the press is treating conservatives like how the nazis manipulated people into hating the jews? That's totally anti-semitic, even though it isn't referring to the acrual holocaust itself. Carano definetely deserves that consequence. And how dare Johnny Depp try to clear his name after being abused and lied about by a money-grubbing narcissist? Doesn't he know that only men could never be victims? He definetely deserved the consequences for that.

  • Yes, one of the foundations of Levar Burton's acting career is a part almost nobody saw in a supposedly historical narative that was equal parts original fiction from the author, plagiarized fiction from another author, and variously distorted family history. (One of the more amusing errors in Roots is Chicken George returning from bondage in England in 1861, having been held there in servitude for more than 20 years. Slavery in all parts of the British Empire under the direct control of the Crown was abolished by 1840, and slavery in England itself had been abolished for about 700 years by this point. Whatever his legal status in England was, it could not have been as a slave. It was also already case law, from 1783, that he could not be forcibly removed from England, any departure from England had to be with his consent.)

Consequences for your actions aren't blown out of proportion and advertised en masse all over mainstream social media, backed and boosted by giant corporations with massive news reach and millions to burn as some kind of ongoing internet-wide rally for uninvolved parties to attend and engage in the abuse and harassment of a target until they have a psychological, emotional, financial, physical, and spiritual breakdown... Yeah.. That sounds like a real good consequence for speaking freely. Consequence culture... Yeah it's consequence culture alright.. Just wait until we start to see the actual consequences of it. Psh.. Give it 3 generations, people wont be able to solve *anything* without emotional warfare. Suicide, isolation, and insanity is going to become the new standard.

  • All this means is that Levar Burton hasn't been paying attention. He hasn't gone down FIstart rabbit holes or read articles about people being wrongfully cancelled. If he had, there is no way he would support this. He is taking it at face value - people who spread hurtful rhetoric face consequences for it. But that's not how it actually plays out. I don't think he truly supports the cancel culture we are talking about - as if so, I think he could be easily convinced otherwise.
