  • You got it wrong. China LOVES Disney Mulan, but it is only the love from the China Communist Party. People in Hong Kong and Taiwan HATE Disney Mulan because of China's manipulation. As with Shang-chi, China HATES it as well as most Chinese people who also HATE it.

  • Your ignorance is fully on display here. Yes, the China market is a huge deal and due to various issues, there is a level of sucking up that needs to happen because there is a lot of government control that can keep the films out of the market all together. But there is no studio out there who thinks they need to focus fully on the China market while ignoring the rest of the world. The Star Wars franchise does nothing over in China, due to the original films not being allowed to show over there so there is no fandom for it now, which all the more backs up how successful the new Trilogy did since it did not have any real success in China, so it made all its big block buster money without doing well in the worlds second largest market. I am so glad idiots like you are NOT in charge of making movies, as they would be pure crap under the rational used by those like you. There are a lot of people looking forward to Phase 4. I know a great deal of fans who will be there at the theaters to see the films. I am looking forward to Black Widow and I have faith in Shang-Chi and The Eternals, each of which will most likely be a block buster film and of high quality as has been all of the MCU films. After all Guardians of the Galaxy was an almost unknown team when their film was made. You really are just being a toxic fan and looking for everything you can find to be negative about the franchise.

Edit: So the critique voiced by The "Global" Times means nothing. The only thing you hear is the Partys stance on it. Doesn't mean the movie is bad though, Disney movies nowadays are shit anyways.

  • I feel shang chi was meant to appeal to Asian Americans over China. A lot of Asian Americans are pretty excited for Shang chi 🤷‍♂️ China doesn’t need to care for the Asian American experience because they aren’t Asian American so to them this doesn’t make sense or relate to them. Also Milan flopped because they tried to appeal to China yet all the writers were white and had no idea what they were writing. It felt like they watched a bunch of wushia kungfu films and just made a vomit with all that material combined.

Look at that sensitive asian article writer, you get an asian lead in a mostly asian cast movie and it's still racist and not good enough. In that case let's stop movies that aren't aimed at the majority race in America. Simple, then you can moan there is no movies for your race here and you have to go to china to see one. • If Chinese audiences want to see a "Chinese" movie, they have Chinese studios to do that. Chinese audience go see an American movie because they want to see an AMERICAN movie. Disney execs think the equivalent of people going to Pizza Hut because they want a burger. Also, the Chinese audience has no more interest in being lectured to by "white liberals" than the US audience has.

    KG JungKG Jung20 päivää sitten
  • To be honest, Disney is trying to pander to the overseas Chinese audiences, not the Chinese who live in China. China already have movies, tv shows, and literature literally about people who can fly and have magic. Those characters are superheroes in their own wright. If they wanted to see someone who looks Chinese fly and do magic they just would watch their own shows. Basically, this movie will compete all the other Chinese movies that have Chinese superheroes in it and it's very hard to outshine those movies.

  • Here is something that needs some clarification. A lot of the Chinese people are actually against the Chinese government. They loved the cartoon Mulan because she was a regular everyday woman that used her natural abilities, ingenuity, and talents to over come obstacles and saved the emperor not for him being the emperor but for him being a living person that did no harm in this instance. And at the end her reward was going home to the people she loved being safe and sound. The live action movie Mulan is a super-powered woman that is a better man then the men saves the emperor because she is a glorious soldier of the government and her allegiance was to the government above all else. And her reward was working for the emperor. Basically the cartoon mulan she went to war for her family, the live action she went to war for the government. One reviewer I watched, she basically said it was a love letter to the Chinese government rather than the people.

  • Nobody is asking for the movie, but that's okay. Nobody asked for Antman or Ironman or Blackwidow. But if you're going to build a new phase with new characters, then you'll likely have to bring heroes not asked for. That being said, I'm fine with Shang Chi. I don't know much about him. He doesn't seem to have superpowers, but neither did Blackwidow or Hawkeye. The comic started and promoted a lot of Asian stereotypes. Will the movie get past those, who knows. The movie should go forward. Admittedly, I'm not excited about it, and I'm quickly becoming less excited about the actor. To be honest, I'm not excited about anything in the upcoming phase. I kinda half heartedly look forward to Dr. Strange and Blackwidow. Everything else, even all the Disney+ content, I've basically skipped: all seems agenda-focused crap. And so I'm skipping almost everything.

    Tim M. BradleyTim M. Bradley20 päivää sitten
  • Mate, you totally misunderstand China sometimes. No matter what you dislike the Chinese government, or middle east countries it doesn't mean that the people don't know what is good or bad. People just genuinely dislike those films because it is obvious that those filmmakers just want to milk money in the Asien market and follow a specific stereotype (which they dislike). People don't follow the government as braindead minions. If something is good they say it, and if something is bad they say it as well. For instance, you have mentioned many times that the Chinese are racist towards black people and hate Muslims. The biggest sport in China is basketball because they love the NBA and followed players like Jorden, Kobe and LeBron. And no black people will get attacked just because of their skin. They got a problem with the Uighur, which happens to be Muslim. But there are so many Muslims in China and whole streets in all cities dedicated to Muslims? You can find a Muslim restaurant and sellers everywhere in China with no problem. However, I am totally against how the Uighurs are treated if it is just like the media say. I don't know what the right solution is, but that area is known to do terrorist attacks and kill innocent people. I just think that you very easy paint China way too easy. The country covers two times the size of Europe and many 'States'/region in China are very different from each other.

  • Clearly As much as they want to pander, Disney did no research into modern Chinese culture, family is EXTREMELY important to them, and affluent families especially so, they’re seen almost like modern day novels, The fact that this film portrays one of the wealthy Chinese families as evil, and that his son rebels against him are individually enough to get the hammer but together they make this movie borderline blasphemous to the Chinese government. The last thing they want is the heirs of their wealthy families to think of is rebelling.

  • Shang Chi was initially trashed because of the connection with Fu Manchu, but since most Chinese had never heard of this name, it might not be a problem yet. Now that the trailer is out, it's universally trashed in China. I'm almost certain it will flop here. The most significant issue now is the casting choice. The main actor looks like a random dude at his thirties, with little heroic charisma (unlike young Jet Li), even though the muscles are legit. - You don't do that if the actor isn't already popular because of his acting, or unless it's not a superhero film. And it appears they chose the main actress based on how "Asian" she looks to an American (maybe), instead of a Chinese. To put it mildly, her face doesn't appeal to most Chinese. Chinese generally liked the actress for Mulan, who actually looks Chinese and attractive in their eyes. But they were disappointed when the movie was released. No, it's not some rip off of Crouching Tiger, far from it. To me, Mulan is some Dragonball Revolution level of bs. I don't think Hollywood is trying or knows how to appeal to Chinese audience.
